Electric Tankless Water Heater
Information current as of
If your area of the world has cheaper electric rates than gas or propane then the tankless
electric water heater may be for you. Compared to gas systems, the electric versions require a
relatively high electric power draw because water must be heated quickly to the desired temperature. Be sure to check the energy ratings on any
unit you evaluate to determine any potential cost savings for your home.
The way in which an electric tankless water heater works is fairly clearcut. Water runs through a heat exchanger and
is heated. When you turn on the hot water faucet, a sensor will tell the heat exchanger to fire and heat the water. When you're finished using
the hot water, the whole unit simply shuts off.
PowerStar 4 GPM Electric Tankless Water Heater, Tan AE125
PowerStar water heaters bring the performance of tankless models to situations where an electric unit is preferred. Compact and powerful, both
the AE115 and the AE125 can supply enough hot water to support one major application (shower, dishwasher, etc.) at a time. The AE115 delivers up
to 2.6 gallons per minute, while the AE125 delivers up to 4.0 gallons per minute. With both units, an external temperature-control knob and an
internal flow sensor help to ensure a constant output temperature. The AE115 is not recommended in climates where annual groundwater temperature
is less that 60 degrees Fahrenheit. If you live in such a locale, consider the AE125 instead. Both models are covered by a manufacturer’s 10-year
limited warranty on the solid-copper heat exchanger and a one-year limited warranty on parts. NOTE: The AE115 requires minimum electrical service
to the home of 150 amps, and the AE125 requires a minimum of 200 amps.
